FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY SHOULD I GET A CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT?
Concealed handgun laws permit law-abiding citizens to carry firearms concealed on their persons for purpose of personal protection. Carrying concealed, as opposed to carrying openly, makes it possible to be armed without alarming others, or causing a provocation. Most U.S. states that allow civilians to carry concealed handguns require that the individual obtain a legal permit by submitting to a thorough background check. In some cases, the applicant is required to pass a written test, obtain specialized firearms training or even pass a shooting test. Depending upon the state in which one resides, the benefits of holding a concealed carry permit go beyond the simple right to carry a weapon for defense. In many states, holders of a permit are allowed to purchase firearms more easily. Some holders also report that they find that law enforcement officers treat them more respectfully, since they know that the person's background has already been thoroughly checked. Many people who regularly shoot for recreation or competition also seek concealed carry permits for convenience, and having the permit makes it easier to travel with their weapon(s).
WHAT IF I’VE NEVER HANDLED FIREARMS BEFORE?
No problem. This is why we offer the NRA FIRST Step program. You can read more by clicking, HERE
IS YOUR CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT CLASS AND THE SHOOTING RANGE LOCATED AT TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS?
No, both facilities are conveniently located at the same location. We utilize the Izaak Walton League building just a few minutes northeast of Ankeny. The range is located right outside of the building.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT CLASSES YOU OFFER?
WHAT TYPE AND CALIBER HANDGUN CAN I QUALIFY WITH?
You may use a revolver or a semiautomatic handgun. .38 caliber / 9mm and larger are acceptable, however it’s always best to not get carried away with the caliber of handgun. The likelihood of concealed carrying a 6” .44 magnum is slim, so there’s not much point in trying to qualify with it. Use a caliber you can comfortably manage.
